What is improved in Improved Medicare for All?

Note: This will generally not be used as a stand-alone document. It is our current definition of what we mean when we say Improved Medicare for All (IMFA). It answers questions about what is improved in IMFA, and it explains that IMFA does not mean Medicare exactly like it is today. The definition may be included where appropriate in other documents or modified to fit the context and style of other documents. It may also be a footnote in other documents. It is open to revision when it is determined that revision is advisable.

The Foundation supports Improved Medicare for All (IMFA) systems that provide health care for every resident in the United States and make the following additions and adjustments to Medicare:[1]

  • Includes dental, vision, hearing, drugs, durable medical equipment, long-term care, and improved mental health services
  • Expands benefits to include all of the more comprehensive Colorado Medicaid services
  • Regulates the cost of drugs, devices, transport, and other services essential for life and health.
  • Provides full benefits without deductibles, coinsurance, or copays, thus eliminating the need for supplemental or gap insurance
  • Allows full choice of health care provider
  • Negotiates with health care providers from each specialty for fair and equitable compensation that recognizes their experience, skills, and training
