Sample personal fundraising asks

Letter #1 (from Sara)

Subject Line: Thank you!

Dear family and friends,

The Colorado movement for universal health care needs you. I’m writing to ask you to contribute to the group working for a Colorado universal health care plan alongside our efforts to win national improved Medicare for All.

That’s because universal health care may need to take hold one state at a time and spread — as have the movements to legalize gay marriage and legalizing marijuana.

The Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care urgently needs contributions now to continue to operate. If you can, please contribute.

This presidential election is so urgent that the Foundation’s regular online donations have plummeted as folks give to their favorite candidates. I know this election matters like no other.

But the Colorado movement must continue.

The Foundation made this handy chart to help you know the real universal health care plans (like Sen. Bernie Sanders Senate bill and Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s House bill) from the fake ones touted by many candidates. Please keep it in mind as you do your important work on this election.

Please keep the Foundation in mind as well. With your ongoing financial support, together we can lay the groundwork for Colorado to lead the nation.

Thank you in advance for your generous support!

Letter #2 (From Bill)

It is likely that one state will first lead the way to getting universal, better, more affordable health care in our country. Equity and fiscal responsibility call for this.

While it is heartening to see presidential candidates for improved Medicare for All, we need to continue to support state-based efforts.

Here in Colorado, the Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care has been closely involved in our gaining the evidence that will come from HB 19-1176, the Health Care Cost Savings Act, passed in May by our Legislature. It will create a task force to hire the experts to analyze a comparison of how we pay for care now within the ACA, a multipayer universal plan, and a single payer, Improved Medicare for All approach. It will compare the financial costs involved in these three distinct systems, as well as other social impacts.

These side-by-side comparisons have not been done. Colorado can lead the way in providing evidence-based direction for the health care reform we need.

We all are receiving heartfelt requests for donations from many causes. If you are able to give to the Foundation, it will help us continue our work for a more fiscally sound, socially just state and country.

Letter #3 (From Ivan)
Universal health for all Coloradans,
one way or the other!
If you agree,
read on.
Since the presidential campaign has heated up, and several candidates are promoting the “real deal” Improved Medicare for All (IMFA), the Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care’s reliable stream of donations has dried up.
I’m writing to ask for you to support this important organization now, during the presidential campaigns. Both this Colorado work AND the elections matter. The Foundation needs your help to continue to operate.
Monthly donations are hugely helpful.
The Foundation plays a unique and necessary role in getting universal health care. They:
  • Work to get Colorado universal health care one way or the other: either through a national IMFA or a state universal health care plan.
  • Encourage all candidates to embrace universal health care both during their campaigns and after they are elected
  • Support the “real deal” IMFA and expose the fallacies in all of the fake Medicare for all plans being proposed

The Foundation makes a difference:

  • They supported successful legislation for an economic impact analysis of universal health care, the Health Care Cost Savings Act, which passed with bipartisan support
  • If Washington fails to create IMFA, the Foundation is on track to propose a universal health care ballot initiative for Colorado
  • They’re the group to coordinate regional efforts into a statewide campaign
  • They’re building support among the business community, medical community, and rural communities.
  • They collaborate with other supporters of IMFA

Help make a difference. The Foundation will work for all Coloradans to have health care, whether a state or national plan wins first.

They need your help with funding so that they can fulfill this  important role. Please contribute what you can today.
