Impact Study Underway

Economist to Analyze the Health Care Cooperative
Colorado voters will soon understand how a member-run, member-owned cooperative business would pay for universal, quality health care statewide. The Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care (Foundation) is pleased to announce that it has hired economics professor Gerald Friedman, Ph.D., of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst to prepare an economic impact study on the Colorado Health Care Cooperative.

The report, to be released Feb. 15, 2013, will give Colorado voters, businesses, and opinion leaders practical, specific data about the Cooperative’s benefits and premium costs for both individuals and businesses.
Dr. Friedman will analyze and compare options for Colorado’s health care future, including the Colorado Health Care Cooperative, full implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and the status quo to compare:

  • The costs for consumers, employers, and government
  • The actuarial value of each option
  • Impact on business, the economy, and employment of each option
  • Access and affordability
  • Implementation or transition costs
  • Potential barriers or negative impacts

We look forward to announcing the results of this analysis. We hope to bring Dr. Friedman to Colorado in early 2013 to explain his findings.

Universal health care is possible and within our reach. Please remember that your donations to the effort power our movement.
